Usually, spring in rugby is the time of the final stages and the inflow of money for amateur clubs, between ticketing recipes, refreshments and youth tournaments. However, their 2019-2020 season ended on March 27, by decision of the French Rugby Federation (FFR) due to the coronavirus epidemic.

"Faced with this exceptional situation, a massive support and recovery plan has been put in place, including an exceptional effort to support clubs of 35 million euros," the FFR announced in a press release on Tuesday.

Of this amount, 14 million euros relate to the end of the current season. These are in fact sums not collected by the regional leagues and the Federation, which has decided to stop the levies on club accounts for the "last three months" of the current season (license fees and insurance, costs of mutation…).

A 2020-2021 “zero draw” season

The remaining 21 million euros relate to the next financial year, since the FFR announces for 2020-2021 "a zero levy season for clubs". The Federation undertakes to redistribute to the regional leagues the shortfall resulting from these non-deductions.

The financing of this operation "will combine the allocation of the profit for the current financial year, recourse to the insurance fund and the equity of the FFR", indicates its treasurer general Alexandre Martinez.
