In the spring of 2019, Rikard Grip got fired from the role of national team manager for the national team. Since then he has worked as a sports director within the Swedish Olympic Committee and has been responsible for the preparations for the Olympic Games.

Now he is starting a new chapter - as secretary general of the Swedish Archery Association.

- It was a surprising but strong name. Spontaneously it feels great fun, says SVT Sports expert Björn Ferry.

In addition to the role of national team manager, Grip was also the national team captain for the national team for many years and Ferry believes this is an important experience.

- This is the most important role in the entire union. After all, you have responsibility for staff, offices, sponsors and the whole of the biathlon. He gets farther from the national team business but at the same time it is his strength that he has been there. He has a natural connection with riders and coaches. It can be a key.

The pandemic can make work difficult

Swedish biathlon has several strong names, including on the women's side with Hanna Öberg at the forefront. In addition, Stina Nilsson has switched from cross-country skiing to biathlon.

- Rikard Grip gets into a great position. On the ladies side, we have the best generation ever and it looks like we have a golden decade coming. And that Stina Nilsson has chosen to invest in biathlon means that we have a very exciting time ahead. It's a favorable location, a good bunch and a good economy, says Ferry.

However, the SVT expert raises a warning finger for the current coronary pandemic that can make the work more difficult.

- The most important thing is that the economy works and that the budget is in balance. Many companies go very poorly, so it can be a lot of work. You can't be sure that all sponsors are still there. It's a turbulent time to take over, but I think Rikard Grip has good opportunities to solve it well.
