While in France and in most European countries, the vagueness remains as to the possible resumption of professional football championships, Argentina has decided. Monday, in an interview with TNT, the president of the Federation (AFA) announced the end of the 2019-2020 season. "We are going to close the championship so that we can designate the teams qualified for the continental competitions next year," said Claudio Tapia.

The four sesame holders for the Copa Libertadores 2021, the South American Champions League, are Boca Juniors, River Plate, Racing and Argentinos Juniors.

The AFA also announced the suspension of relegations (but not promotions) for this season and next season. Direct consequence: Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, club coached by Diego Maradona, in bad shape (s) at the time of the interruption, is therefore guaranteed to remain in the first division.

Claudio Tapia justified these measures by the need to alleviate the economic difficulties suffered by Argentinian clubs, which are non-profit associations. The containment measures in the country, decreed on March 20, must continue at least until May 10.

In the Faroe Islands, we will resume!

On the other side of the planet, the Faroe Islands, located between Scandinavia and Iceland, have announced that the local first division championship will begin on May 9 behind closed doors. The archipelago has recorded 187 cases of Covid-19, among which 180 healings.
