Azul, Province of Buenos Aires - AFP.

The Argentine Football Association has announced the cancellation of the local league, which was suspended in mid-March due to an outbreak of Corona Virus, its president Claudio Tapia announced Monday.

"We will drop the curtain on the league and choose the teams that will participate in the continental competitions next season," Tapia told TNT.

The federation also announced that the landing principle will not be adopted this season and the next season.

"Gymnasia e Esigrima de la Plata", whose training will be supervised by Argentine superstar Diego Maradona, and which is ranked nineteenth out of 24 teams, will remain first.

Tapia justified the measures to stop the league permanently because of the need to reduce the economic burdens under which the clubs are suffering, which are considered non-profit institutions in Argentina.

The quarantine measures in Argentina, decided by the local government on March 20, will continue, at least to May 10.
