Testimonies of abuses in Swedish figure skating have created headlines since last fall. Young riders have criticized, among other things, Dagens Nyheter, Expressen and social media, a culture that is said to contain psychological abuse, weight, silence culture and pressure to exercise despite injuries.

Earlier this year, a Swedish trainer for mental abuse and weight was dropped against a 15-year-old JVM rider. The decision, which was made by the Swedish Figure Skating Association's Ethics and Discipline Committee, has been appealed by the coach to the Swedish Sports Committee.

The figure skating association has also previously appointed an external investigation of its entire operations.

"You have gone up"

Now Expressen reports on another top trainer accused of weight gain. In a sound recording, a person, who should be the said trainer, criticizes how a 19-year-old rider in a prominent Swedish club gained weight.

- You haven't gone down, you've gone up. You don't see, do you? You don't know? You look the same as before. That's why I ask. Do you check your weight? the trainer will say.

The rider, who has chosen to remain anonymous, tells the newspaper that at the time of the recording she had regained her previous eating disorder. The coach still wanted to weigh her against her will, says the rider.

The coach rejects

Several riders confirm the 19-year-old's image, while others take the coach in defense. One says it is the best coach she has ever had.

When the coach is confronted with the recording, this Expressen replies via email:

“You can always improve everything, even how you express yourself. We have all said something that could have been said differently. "

“We have never talked about dieting, just about eating right. There has never been a requirement for any specific weight to be included. It's just been about getting out of what is being done in the programs ”.
