Martin Johnsrud Sundby won the World Cup three years ago and in 2019 the 35-year-old became the 15 kilometer world champion in Seefeld.
But after a heavy last year's season without a single individual podium place, Sundby will be placed outside the national team squad, for the first time in 13 years, this fall. It is experienced by Norwegian NRK.
Part of the pitting, according to NRK, is that the national team will lose from 15 men to 12 because of poor finances in the union.
As recently as last week, the 35-year-old said in an interview with VG that he was incredibly motivated to take revenge next season.
