Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watske wants to resume the Bundesliga Bundesliga season as soon as possible, with matches played without an audience.
The German Bundesliga has been suspended since the middle of last month due to the Corona pandemic.
There are efforts to resume the Bundesliga next May, amid tight precautions, but this step will not take place until the green light is obtained from the government.
"If we don't play in the next few months, the entire Bundesliga will go downhill," Fatske said to Sky TV.
"I certainly realize that many fans say that there will be no atmosphere on the field and this matter will be broadcast on television, certainly this is clear, but the issue is related to saving football, so they saved it from decline."
There are nine rounds left at the end of the Bundesliga season, and by setting up these matches, the ban will be lifted from about 300 million euros (324 million dollars) of TV broadcasts.
