Dutch club Utrecht plans to sue the Dutch football authorities, after it was denied the opportunity to participate in European championships next season.

On Friday, the Dutch Football Association decided to end the season and there would be no hero, landing or rise. The decision came after the government announced that professional football would not take place before September 1 due to the Coruna virus epidemic.

Ajax lead the Dutch league with a goal difference against Alkmaar and will qualify for the Champions League directly, although he is not the official champion. The club described the decision as "reasonable and understandable."

Alkmaar can qualify for the Champions League through the playoff round, while Feyenoord, Eindhoven and Willem Tilburg will participate in the European League.

But there is anger in Utrecht, which is sixth in the table, three points behind Tilburg and was due to face Feyenoord in the Dutch Cup final. There were nine remaining rounds of the Dutch League before its cancellation.

Club president Thisis Van S spoke of a "dark football day" and said that the decision of the Dutch Football Association "lacks transparency and objectivity." He is currently planning to file a complaint with the court, but a Dutch legal expert said this would be of no use.

"Hardly any judge in the Netherlands will take mathematical aspects into account, but he will make his judgment based on the procedures followed," Marjan Olivers said on NOS radio.
