Johannes Lukas is stuck in quarantine in southern Germany and will at the same time try to guide one of the world's best skiers to reach the world top even in biathlon.

It is very new, not only for Stina Nilsson but also for Lukas who says that he has close contact with his new adept and that he receives promising reports from his coaches colleagues in Östersund.

- It looks very positive. She has great motivation and wants to learn everything. I have talked to her a lot already and I want her to be involved from the beginning, that she really feels like a part of the team and that she really understands how biathlon works, he says.

It's been over a month since Stina Nilsson released the bomb that she's switching sports.

Since then, she has been hailed for both her courage and her drive, and shooter coach Jean-Marc Chabloz has told Nilsson to shoot 1,200 shots a week.

"Is a risk"

Johannes Lukas has been aware that it can still take two years for Stina Nilsson to become a biathlon at the World Cup level.

Although she is one of the most experienced in terms of riding, you have to take into account that she is new to the biathlon world, he says.

- It is very important to me that you do not run over her, "she knows this, now we take the next step, and the next", but you really have to teach her everything so that she understands everything from the beginning and that it is not possible for fast, says Luke.

- Otherwise, she may get tired of all the new things and lose focus, and then there is the risk that you will lose quality training.

TT: Have you seen her on the shooting rampage?

- Actually not, so it will be exciting the first time.

Works remotely

The distance between the countries is no bigger problem, says Johannes Lukas. He is isolated in his Munich apartment because of the corona eruption, but is used to doing much of the work remotely, just as his predecessor Wolfgang Pichler did.

- It works great. We have online meetings (with riders and coaches) and have very good communication, says Lukas.

He does not know when he can meet the riders, but hopes to travel to Östersund in mid or late May, depending on how the pandemic develops.

- We have put together a very good plan that I am very pleased with, so it is no big problem if I can not be there.
