The London club has lifted its option of an additional year to extend Olivier Giroud's contract until June 2021. The 33-year-old French striker managed to return to grace early 2020 despite the competition at his post.

Chelsea has exercised its option to extend the contract of French international Olivier Giroud by one year until June 2021, we learned on Saturday from sources familiar with the matter. Giroud's 33-year contract linked him to the Blues until June 2020 with an option of an additional year.

Arrived at Chelsea in winter 2018, The French had a long crossing of the desert there which pushed him to try to leave the club, but he returned to grace in early 2020 despite the stiff competition in attack.

The third top scorer in the history of the Blues

The former Montpellier and Arsenal, third top scorer in the history of the French team, is still a serious contender for a starting position with the Blues, just over a year from the Euro . With 39 goals in 97 caps, he is just behind Michel Platini (41 goals) and Thierry Henry (51).
