Already last year it became clear that the women's crowns would receive Olympic qualifications after the degradation from the A-VM. The six highest ranked nations as well as the host country of China are automatically ready for the women's tournament in Beijing 2022.

The ranking is based on the results of the World Cup and the Olympic Games in the last four seasons and since the highest World Cup divisions were suspended due to the corona pandemic both on the women's and men's side, it was already clear which teams would be automatically qualified.

Sweden is a world leader on the men's side and nine on the women's side. This means that the women's crowns take the last place to be seeded in the qualifying and thus stand as organizer for one of three qualifying groups that will be provisionally decided on 11-14 February 2021. Who will become the women's qualifiers is not clear.

Canada is world-class on the men's side and the United States on the women's side.

Three Kronor will end up in the same Olympic team as Finland and the other two opponents will be qualifying teams. The last archival rivals met in a championship was at the last World Cup when Finland won the quarterfinals and went all the way to the World Cup gold. It is still unclear whether the NHL will release its players to the 2022 Olympics.
