“A lot of people are coming. Some are brought in serious condition. ”

Gymnast Sergei Naydin was one of the first Russian athletes to be diagnosed with coronavirus. On April 1, he went straight from the base in Novogorsk to a hospital in the city of Solnechnogorsk. Andrei Rodionenko, head coach of the Russian national gymnastics team, also passed a positive test for COVID-19.

However, after some time, no trace of the virus was found in the organisms. Despite this, Naydin is still in the hospital and cannot go home to Barnaul. To understand the situation, RT contacted the athlete himself and asked him to tell about what had happened. According to the gymnast, he is currently waiting for the results of the last test.

- I'm waiting for the result of the third test. On March 30, I passed the first one - it turned out to be positive. The second passed on the 7th, and he was already negative. I don’t know how doctors can explain this, but the results are long. How could it happen that they are different? I don’t know, they didn’t explain anything to me. Perhaps they will be discharged on Monday.

- How was the hospitalization procedure?

- From Novogorsk I was immediately taken to the hospital. We measured the temperature. At first they gave some pills for three or four days, but when they realized that there were no symptoms, they canceled. However, I did not drink them, because I did not see the point. Then I just sat and waited for the results of the analyzes. Doctors say I'm fine.

- The head coach of the national team Valentina Rodionenko said that you are regularly transferred from house to house.

- It really is. The one in which I am now, is already the fourth in a row. This is due to the fact that a lot of people are coming. Some are brought in serious condition. Since I’m in boxing, I don’t meet with anyone, but doctors say that the hospital is crowded. I’m very afraid to catch something here already. It would be better to let go home. Unfortunately, the analysis takes a very long time, and you have to wait and endure. I'll sign out and go home to Altai. Problems with the restriction of movement should not seem to be.

- What do you do at all while in the hospital box?

- I train and watch movies. I’m pushing up, plus they brought me a special “rubber” here. Therefore, I do everything I can. But, of course, it’s very difficult to sit all alone and wait for the results. Trainers write, give assignments. The guys from the team are also trying to support. Nikita Nagorny has recently been interested in my condition. Arthur Dalaloyan wrote. They are all quarantined. As for nutrition, they bring food to me directly from the base in Novogorsk.

“Do you really have no symptoms of the disease?”

- Yes. It all started like that. At the end of March, we arrived in Novogorsk with the national team. There everyone passed a test for coronavirus, and with my head coach he turned out to be positive. However, his subsequent two results were negative. But even then, absolutely nothing bothered me. Honestly, I didn’t even have time to get scared. Sickness is like a disease. Moreover, I felt perfect, even the temperature did not rise. At first, the wife did not believe at all when she found out that I had a coronavirus, thought it was a joke, and then she was upset.

“At two in the morning he was picked up and transferred to another chamber”

Previously, dissatisfaction with the current situation was expressed by the head coach of the national team Valentina Rodionenko, who said that in the situation with the athlete’s hospitalization, “something incomprehensible is happening.”

“He is promised to be discharged, but transferred from house to house. The test, which was taken on April 7, seems to have given a negative result, but so far they have not given any documents. Today at two in the morning Sergey was picked up and transferred to another ward, although two days ago they said that they were being released, we thought about how to send him. Yesterday we spent the whole day waiting for something to be said and released, but some documents didn’t come, ”the R-Sport coach quotes.

At the same time, according to her, Naydin has no symptoms of COVID-19 and he feels absolutely normal. To understand the situation, Rodionenko even turned to the Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin.

“They said that a very large line is behind the final results. As I understand it, some kind of bedlam is going on, apparently everything is crowded there. But why do you keep a healthy guy? We have already run out of patience, and there is endless talk that everything is crowded, ”Rodionenko added.

The minister himself really promised to help and admitted that he is in touch with Naidyny every day. He also urged to respect the personal life of athletes who were in a similar situation, and not to make this a “vivid campaign”.

The fact that the gymnast, as well as the head coach of the Russian national gymnastics team passed a positive test for coronavirus, became known on April 2. However, the very next day, Rodionenko’s repeated test, which went into home isolation, turned out to be negative. And on the eighth of the day, the specialist passed another negative test. Moreover, the entire national team was also forced to quarantine.

“Each athlete has an individual training plan. They can perform some groups of exercises at home. The main thing is to maintain an emotional state. All members of the national team are under control due to the situation with the coronavirus, ”Rodionenko explained.
