The board of FC Barcelona is restless. On Friday, six members of the board resigned out of dissatisfaction with the policy of chairman Josep Maria Bartomeu.
The letter of resignation from Vice Presidents Emili Rousaud and Enrique Tombas and Directors Silvio Elias, Josep Pont, Jordi Calsamiglia and Maria Texidor is in the hands of Spanish media.
Among other things, the sextet is not happy with the way Barcelona recently dealt with financial measures following the corona crisis. The Spanish top club included salary of players, but that resulted in a riot.
In fact, stories circulated in the press that players would have refused to turn in wages, but that was soon refuted in a statement on behalf of the complete selection, which donates 70 percent of its salary and makes an extra financial contribution during the crisis.
The players said they were amazed at a part of the club management who would have tried to put the selection in a bad light. President Bartomeu said that certain people have said things "without knowing the hat and the brim" without mentioning names.
La Liga, like almost all other competitions, has stopped and will not resume until May. Barcelona leads after 27 rounds. The club of Lionel Messi and Frenkie de Jong, among others, is two points ahead of rival Real Madrid.
