Criticized, English Premier League footballers announced on Wednesday the launch of an initiative to generate funds to help the British National Health Service (NHS) during the coronavirus pandemic. This initiative, dubbed #PlayersTogether, was set up to "help those who are fighting for us on the front lines of the NHS" in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic, said the collective of players in a press release.

"It is for us, as players, to collaborate to create a voluntary initiative, distinct from any league and or any club," he said. To try to help, with so many others in the country, to make a real difference. Several English football personalities such as Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have posted information on this initiative on social networks.

In early April, the Premier League proposed to cut player wages by 30%. But the British Players Union (PFA) has argued that such a cut would lower tax revenues for the UK budget, which could penalize the NHS. "All Premier League players want and will play their part in making significant financial contributions in these unprecedented times," the union said in a statement on Saturday.

Since the start of the new coronavirus crisis, the Premier League has come under fire from critics for its use of state aid. She has since been trying to find an agreement on salary cuts to save face in the face of an exasperated public opinion.
