The plan was for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to become Erika Kinsey's last major competition, but after the announcement that the championship was moved one year there were thoughts of ending her career.

- I felt well "no, now I'm done". It was just an emptiness, ”says Erika Kinsey to SVT Sport.

Two and a half weeks have passed since the Olympics and now Kinsey has made his decision.

- I will continue. With everything going on now, it is difficult to have a goal and then the training felt most natural. I feel it is the right decision - I have much left to give.

Want to form a family

Before making her decision, there were some important parameters that she needed to consider, including support and the formation of a family.

- I really have a longing to have a family so it's been important. But then the Olympics became a year ahead and then it felt like it is not so much anyway.

32-year-old Kinsey lives with her husband, as well as coach, in the United States. A continued investment thus affects both Kinsey and her husband.

- My husband really supports me and I am grateful for that, but I also know how much he puts up. We were looking for extra help from any coach but it is not optimal for an Olympic year.

Hard to train in the US

In the United States, there are strict restrictions due to corona pandemic. Most of it is shut down and there are few opportunities for training.

- All gyms and halls are closed and when there was still snow outside it was difficult to work out.

Now she trains most at home, outdoors in parks or at a school where there is the opportunity to jump altitude outdoors.

- I got two high jump passes and it still feels luxurious.

- You have to make the best of the present. My husband is good at finding things out of what we have, and it's fun and challenging.

Kinsey is not Olympic ready and right now the Olympics qualification is paused until December 1 due to the corona pandemic.
