The judge in charge of the case of Brazilian football star Ronaldinho, who was arrested for more than a month in a Paraguayan prison for using a false passport, announced that he was placed under house arrest in a hotel in the capital Asuncion

"It is an alternative measure to Ronaldinho and his brother, and they continue to be suspended in a hotel," Judge Gustavo Amaria said at a press conference.

"I have assurances from the hotel management that they will be under house arrest there at their expense," the judge added.

The judge explained that Ronaldinho's lawyers offered a $ 1.6 million bail to release the two brothers, which was accepted by the Paraguayan judiciary.

Ronaldinho, 39, and his brother Roberto de Assis Moreira were arrested on March 6 in Asunción, after accusing them of entering Paraguay with false passports.

Ronaldinho is being held in police cells, along with 25 officers accused of various crimes and four politicians, including the former president of the Paraguayan Football Association and the former speaker of the House of Representatives.
