Competition organizer DFL is planning to move forward with the Bundesliga again, despite the corona crisis. The top league may already resume in early May and be completed in June.
"We are part of the culture in the country, people are longing to get back a little bit of normal life," DFL director Christian Seifert told the New York Times on Wednesday.
"We have to play a part in that and it could mean that we can play football again in the Bundesliga. We must support the government and talk to them about when we can start again."
The Bundesliga is currently on hold until April 30. The top-level clubs in Germany have already started training again, although everyone still did in small groups in accordance with the rules in the country regarding the corona virus.
Matches are played without an audience
Should the DFL get the green light to prosecute the Bundesliga in roughly a month, the games will be played without an audience and it is not expected to change in the rest of May and June. Seifert doesn't even see that happening in the rest of the year.
Bayer Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz said on Tuesday that he is not in favor of it, but can agree with it. "It will be strange, but it is about money. We play these ghost games because the club can use the money well," he told Kicker .
In almost all other European competitions there is certainly no football. UEFA has urged all national federations to finish the leagues, thereby granting permission to extend the season, which normally ends before June 30, to July and August.
