The Tokyo Olympics were recently held one year ahead due to the corona pandemic and will be decided July 23 - August 8 next year.

Those who have already qualified for the Olympics have their seats, but not until 1 December and until next summer can you qualify again. Although the athletics season would get underway this summer.

World Athletics chairman Sebastian Coe says the decision means that athletes can do better planning and that it will be fairer for everyone.

"This is the best way to create justice as it can be uneven when it comes to competition events around the world with a view to traveling and border restrictions," Coe said in a press release.

"It's very unfortunate"

But Sweden's national team captain Karin Torneklint is critical.

- It is very unfortunate for those who have not yet qualified, as a result from this year should be qualifying. It is far from all countries that have closed down completely and some countries are on the way back, and we need light in the tunnel, she tells the union.

- In Sweden, our active can still train outdoors and compete in small local competitions and Diamond League and European Championships are still not erased. The decision will affect the goals and joy of our healthy assets this summer, which is sad, of course, says union captain Karin Torneklint.

Four Swedish athletes and a pedestrian have so far been Olympic-selected by the Swedish Olympic Committee: Daniel Ståhl, discus, Armand Duplantis, stake jump, Angelica Bengtsson, do, Kim Amb, spear, and Perseus Karlström, 20 km walk.
