The Association of European Automobile Builders (ACEA) has positioned itself "completely against" any intention to mix aviation fuel with diesel for road transport, in order to end the stock of jet fuel due to the decrease in the number of flights.

European car manufacturers have explained that jet fuel has a higher sulfur content than road diesel, so misuse could affect the car's engine.

"The use of a diesel mixed with jet fuel would not be covered by vehicle guarantees, so the consequences would be paid by suppliers and drivers with possible arrangements of hundreds of euros," ACEA has ruled.

On the other hand, the organization has indicated that it "sympathizes" with the option that some countries allow the sale of winter grade gasoline beyond May 1, the date on which summer gasoline begins to be marketed in countries with warmer temperatures (for the rest, the change is made on June 1), due to the accumulated stock in the service areas by the coronavirus.

All this because gasoline is not the same in summer as in winter, since high or low temperatures mean that oil has to be mixed with greater or lesser amounts of components for its correct operation in a vehicle.

However, ACEA has warned that the use of winter gasoline as temperatures rise may lead drivers to see some operational problems in their vehicles. "Manufacturers cannot be held responsible," he stressed.

Still, the European association has been in favor of selling this gasoline for a certain period of time to end the stock and "sympathize" with refiners and fuel suppliers.
