Almost all international football is still under the corona pandemic, and ongoing seasons have been halted so far. Today, Fifa therefore releases new guidelines adapted to the situation and presents several changes.

Fifa wants all started seasons to be played clearly, and the other directives are adapted accordingly.

For example, player contracts that expire on June 30 this year should be extended until the season in question has ended. In connection with that, the current club should also be able to retain a player, even though the player has already signed a contract with another club for the next season.

"This is in line with the parties' original intentions when the contract was signed," Fifa writes.

The transfer windows are also affected. Initially, Fifa chooses to extend the transition period from 12 weeks at present to 16.

If clubs and players do not agree, the cases can be decided by Fifa.

"This will not solve every problem, but it will contribute to stability and bring clarity to the football in the near future," said Fifa chairman Gianni Infantino on Fifa's website.
