On Sunday, after a meeting with the clubs, the Burundi Football Association decided to continue the local league competition, despite fears of the pandemic Corona virus.

The east African country is one of only four countries to continue to play leagues, after sports events around the world have been suspended due to the health crisis.

"After consultations with the Minister of Public Health Thaddeus Ndikumana, the General Assembly decided to continue the first and second-tier league, with appropriate measures taken to maintain hygiene," the union said in a statement after a meeting to discuss whether the season would continue.

Burundi has reported only three cases of coronavirus.

In addition to Burundi, Belarus, Nicaragua and Tajikistan continue to conduct local competitions.

Only three rounds remain in the Burundi League, which reached the African Nations Cup finals for the first time in its history last year.
