The football season in Tajikistan kicked off on Saturday despite attempts to contain the new Corona virus, at a time when leagues around the world are witnessing an almost complete halt.

The local Super Cup match was held on Saturday, after closed doors, and ended with a 2-0 victory over Khujand in the capital, Dushanbe.

At the end of the match, hugs and handshaking took place between the different players of the two teams, before the winner raised the championship trophy in empty strips.

Tajikistan is a poor country in Central Asia with 9 million people and has not yet officially announced any cases of the Coronavirus, which has exceeded one million infections worldwide and more than sixty thousand victims.

The local authorities supervised the Nowruz celebrations in the early days of spring, when they witnessed the participation of thousands of people in various parts of the country.

And the country's leader, Emomali Rakhmon, was seen taking pictures with women in traditional dress at a time when world leaders are calling for social distancing.

Most of the patrols around the world stopped in the middle of last month and no date has been set for recovery.

Only the Belarusian league has been active in the recent period and attracted international attention, knowing that the matches were held in the presence of the fans.
