Pape Diouf, ex-president of Olympique de Marseille (OM) died on Tuesday March 31 of the coronavirus, his family announced.

His death has been confirmed by RTS, the public television channel in Senegal.

His condition quickly deteriorated

Hospitalized in Dakar, Pape Diouf, 68, was to be repatriated on Tuesday to a hospital in Nice in a medical plane chartered by the French Embassy in Senegal. His family was to join him there.

His condition having deteriorated, the plane could not take off and Pape Diouf died on Senegalese soil, we learned from the same source.

Former journalist, player agent and then director of OM, from 2005 to 2009, Pape Diouf had notably contributed to building the team champion of France 2010, after 17 years without titles for OM.
