Helmut Marko, one of the most controversial characters in Formula 1, had devised a convoluted plan to combat the coronavirus pandemic in the most efficient way. Fortunately, the veteran Red Bull adviser's idea did not prosper.

Marko, 76, has admitted that he planned a sort of 'coronavirus camp' so that all pilots sponsored by the energy drink brand, including all four of Formula 1, get infected and overcome the disease as soon as possible, taking advantage of the break competitive due to the pandemic. And so, be ready for the start of the 2020 season.

Speaking to Austrian broadcaster ORF, Marko revealed that he wanted both professional Red Bull pilots and junior category pilots to meet in a rally because now is "the ideal time for infection to occur , " with the start of the World Cup. F1 postponed until at least mid-June.

"We have four Formula 1 drivers ( Max Verstappen, Alexander Albon, Daniil Kyat and Pierre Gasly ) and eight or ten juniors and the idea was to organize a camp to make mental and physical use of the downtime. They are all strong young men with very good health and so they would be prepared when the action began in a very difficult World Cup, "explained Marko, acknowledging that his idea" was not well received "and was discarded.
