This story is born from the altruistic concern of a former athlete, now an entrepreneur, from that feeling of so many Spaniards to give the best of themselves even if they cannot leave home. The wick was a WhatsApp, a "what if ...?" that ignited the most caring side of many against the coronavirus. It continues with calls, donations, purchases and a running chain of a handful of companies throughout Spain, from even Valdemoro seamstresses putting the final auction. And it culminates (which does not end, because there will be more), with 35,000 masks, 5,000 robes and 1,500 mattresses at the Madrid Logistics Center.

Omar Tayara is a reference in the Spanish triathlon, although when he competed in the Beijing Games he did so representing the colors of Syria, the country where his father, Tarek, was born. Even then, from his experiences as a triathlete sparring in Hong Kong and his numerous trips competing throughout Asia, he had seen in the sports textile industry a business niche in which to also stand out. Today, his brand, Taymory, is the benchmark in world triathlon. When he asked himself at his residence in Móstoles what he and his company could do in this situation - suits, swimsuits and cycling clothing could wait; in fact, it has blocked part of its production-, a whole solidarity machinery was being started, even without knowing it.

TNT 50 grams flame retardant

“I saw that there were missing masks, safety gowns, that there were problems at customs. I went online to research the necessary tissue. TNT was 50 grams fire-retardant, it was available, although it was not easy, it runs out ... », says Omar, accustomed to working internationally with technical fabrics, entangled between calls and procedures, now dedicated to the cause in which he has been implicating to a handful of companies. It all started last Saturday, when Tayara asked in a WhatsApp group with people from the textile world.

Jorge Ibañez, a childhood swimming companion, was the one who put him on the track of Tapizados Zen , a sofa company in Córdoba that had recently started to manufacture masks. And thanks to Oscar Mazón (founder of Matris Eccox), another link in the altruistic network, they managed to contact Manolo Caro, owner of Zen, in record time. The necessary fabric was already underway - four pallets with 16,000 meters - and solidarity funding was not long in coming.

Taymory, with its factory in Mataró , and Newsprint would be in charge of cutting and sewing. Also Zen Upholstery in Córdoba, would cut the fabric, outsourcing clothing to a group of seamstresses from Valdemoro (Association of Volunteers of Valdemoro) and another from Valencia, expanding an extraordinary network against the coronavirus throughout the national territory.

And the supports were added, 1,500 mattresses delivered by Comodon to the IFEMA hospital , SEUR donating transport and logistics so that the materials reach the destination from Barcelona, Córdoba and Valencia ...

And the final result, what has already arrived at the Madrid Logistics Center and what is underway, 35,000 masks and 5,000 robes. A great little collaboration of ideas, effort and money, away from the focus of the billionaire campaigns and gestures towards the gallery.
