The Serbian and his wife Jelena donate one million euros, almost SEK 11 million, to medical equipment in Serbia through the tennis star's charity foundation.

- It is important to stand united in this fight. We need to help each other so that we can fight this virus faster and easier, Novak Djokovic told local media in Serbia in connection with the donation on Friday.

Earlier this week, tennis colleague Roger Federer donated just over SEK 10 million to the vulnerable in his home country Switzerland. UFC star Conor McGregor says he will spend the equivalent of just over SEK 10 million on protective equipment for Irish healthcare, to facilitate the fight against the corona virus.

Other notable athletes who have donated money include footballers such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba, ice hockey goalkeeper Henrik Lundqvist and Romanian tennis star Simona Halep.

In Serbia, more than 450 people have been infected with the coronavirus and an illness has died.
