At the end of January, she left the league game in China to play Olympic qualifiers, but due to the corona eruption in China, the league was canceled and she remained in Sweden. Instead, she signed a contract with Turkish Hatay. But after just over two weeks in the club, she threw herself on a flight home as more and more countries shut down and flights began to stop.

- It was chaos, there were no places left. All the tag and when I got on the flight it was full, says Amanda Zahui to SVT Sport.

She broke her contract with the club, but only days later that league was canceled as well.

Concern for her mother

In addition to not wanting to get stuck in Turkey, the concern for her mother was a major reason why she left home from Turkey. Her mother is in the risk group as she is affected by breast cancer and has a reduced immune system.

- It is stressful. We have said that she must not go out, no one can come home and we do not go to the mall and so on, she says.

"Scheduled for us to play"

Next up is the idea of going back to New York and playing in the WNBA, which, despite the unrest, will still officially start as planned on May 15. Before that, it's time for the annual draft, but on Thursday the league announces that it will be held digitally. This is the first time a draft is done entirely online.

- It is still planned that we will play, so I do not think they have decided something or they have it and just waiting.

Do you interpret it as going over to the United States?

"Yes, though I don't know when," says Zahui.

Meanwhile, along with her friend and national teammate Binta Drammeh, she lives with her parents. There she gets to land after a few turbulent months.

- I've had days where there has been chaos and just take me from here. And other days it has been cool, we can't do anything about it, she says.
