Karl-Erik Nilsson goes against the Norwegian proposal: "Think it is best"

Men's European Cup is postponed to summer 2021 due to the spread of the coronavirus. It raises the question of when the ladies' European Championship should be played. It was scheduled to go in England from July 7 to August 1, 2021.

The European Football Association Uefa has appointed a working group to review the calendar issues for all football.

Today, the Norwegian association concluded with a letter to Uefa advocating a solution where both tournaments will be played next year.

- Imagine what signal it would give if we got both. Two European Championship finals 2021 would send a powerful signal to all girls who play football, says chairman Terje Svendsen.

Swedish Confederation Chairman Karl-Erik Nilsson disagrees.

- There are some parameters - I am afraid that a women's European Championship will be in the shadow of a men's European Championship and I am afraid that the English Football Association will have a completely overwhelming task of arranging a new championship immediately after a championship, he says and continues:

- An important sporting parameter when it comes to the women's European championship is that in Sweden we still have five qualifiers left. We expect to be able to play two in the June window, but if it does not, then we will enter the autumn with five qualifiers left and it is clear that we must ensure that the qualification is complete before we start launching an end game.

Does it sound like you're advocating postponing the women's European Championship to 2022?

- I think for my part that this is the best, but I would like to wait to take a firm position on what is best in this context and I intend to answer my friends in Norway as well.

He also flags that some Uefa tournaments can be difficult to implement.

- There are several national team tournaments on the youth side to be scheduled this year, but the qualifying games for them have not been possible. First you have to qualify before you can have a final tournament and as long as there are no times for the qualifying game you also put the tournament ahead.
