The Euro will kick off on June 12, 2020 in Rome. So spoke UEFA only two weeks ago, refusing to consider the worst-case scenario.

Since then, the coronavirus has forced most competitions to pause on the continent - and everywhere else.

No more procrastination, we must rethink the calendar. The assumption that holds the rope would be a carryover from the Euro . The European Nations Championship will be postponed for a year or perhaps only until next autumn, unless it is played in January 2021, at the same time as the CAN.

Free from the Euro, it would be possible to be able to finish the Champions League once the epidemic has passed. Play the last 16 of the finals, then find an accelerated formula for the quarter-finals, in a single match for example before finishing with a four-way tournament in Istanbul, the city where the final will take place.

With its members on Tuesday, UEFA will also discuss the national championships currently suspended. For many federations, the number 1 priority is to complete the season that has started, even if it is necessary to program many days in a short time.

But if the championships cannot come to an end, UEFA wants the same rule to apply everywhere. The current rankings would decide qualifications for the next European Cups and give the championship titles to Liverpool, Barça, Juve, Bayern and PSG.
