On Monday, the government decided on the recommendation of the Public Health Authority to ban events with more than 500 people so far.

Tomorrow, the ice hockey SM final game should have started. To play in front of the audience, SHL decided to postpone the playoffs until March 24.

Anders Tegnell, state epidemiologist at the Public Health Authority, ruled out that the ban would have been lifted until then. Instead, he thinks the ban will remain for months.

- March 24, the ban will definitely remain. I would guess for a month spontaneously. If it is to be effective, we need to get past some kind of peak. We follow this daily. But that would be removed in just over a week, no it is not possible. If the ban were removed in March, I would be extremely surprised, says Anders Tegnell, state epidemiologist.

Inside a standby mode

At present, there are 688 reported cases of people who have the corona virus.

- But my assessment is that we have a number of weeks to a peak. It has not started to take off immediately, and it is not certain that it will take off either. Then we have to make a new assessment. If it stops completely, it can of course be opened again. But my forecast is that it will peak at 6 to 8 weeks.

Stays with the decision

SVT Sport has talked to SHL's CEO Michael Marchal and he says that yesterday's decision remains.

- We are in a kind of staff position and we have not yet decided on action, he tells SVT Sport.

How do you see Anders Tegnell seeing what is excluded from playing in front of audiences in March?

- The situation changes day by day and I don't think he knows exactly either. It is clear that we are dealing with the authorities. As I said yesterday, we have won some time, but we work intensively all the time.

Can there be current play without an audience in the playoffs?

- I do not want to answer that question. Once we have decided, we will inform. But it is clear that there are many scenarios where playing in front of audiences is one of them.
