In January 2019, footballer Emiliano Sala and his pilot disappeared during a flight between France and Wales. The British air accident investigation bureau released a report on Friday that there was a pilot error: David Ibbotson, in control of the aircraft, is said to have lost control while operating at too high a speed.

The pilot of the plane in which footballer Emiliano Sala was killed in January 2019 carried out a maneuver at excessive speed. The error led to the dislocation of the aircraft, concluded the British accident investigation office (AAIB) in its final report published on Friday.

Investigators believe the pilot lost control of the aircraft during a maneuver likely to avoid bad weather. David Ibbotson, whose body has never been found, was also "likely" to have been poisoned by carbon monoxide.

Sala was to meet her new teammates

While his transfer from FC Nantes to the Cardiff club had been confirmed, the Argentine striker flew to Wales to meet his new teammates. The aircraft crashed on January 21. The 28-year-old footballer's body was found in the carcass of the machine, more than two weeks after the accident, at 67 meters deep.
