Several Serie A matches have been postponed and played in front of empty stands due to the large spread of the corona virus in the country. This weekend, 16 million people were quarantined in the north of Italy. Today, the death toll is up to 463 people. The worst hit country after China where it all began.

Now they choose to go a step further and request that all sports be stopped for a month.

It is the country's Olympic committee that is behind the request.

"Health is the most important thing for everyone," Italy's Olympic Committee said in a statement according to the Reuters news agency.

The request, on the other hand, does not include international competitions for national teams and club teams because the Olympic Committee cannot make such decisions.

Later in the evening, Italy's Prime Minister Guiseppe Conte confirmed that all sporting events in the country were canceled. At the same time, he announces that the entire country is being quarantined. He added that the best thing for the citizens of Italy was to stay at home.

Stephanie Öhrström, goalkeeper at Fiorentina, tells Aftonbladet that she is not surprised.
