It is becoming rare these days: despite the epidemic of the new coronavirus, the knockout round of the Champions League return between Leipzig and Tottenham will take place on Tuesday with spectators, the German city announced on Monday. "This decision only applies to this one match," said Leipzig city spokesman Matthias Hasberg.

The city finally opted for the status quo, believing that since "Great Britain is not a high-risk area" and that the tickets "are personalized" and therefore easily traceable, the danger of transmission of the disease was minimal . "We are very happy, it would have been a disadvantage to play the return without our audience, after playing the first leg in front of the Tottenham audience," said Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Two C1 matches out of four behind closed doors

Saxony, the region of eastern Germany where Leipzig is located, is currently little affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. Only ten cases are listed there out of the 1,112 listed in Germany, according to the last official count by the authorities on Monday morning. This decision, however, goes against the recommendation of the German Minister of Health, Jens Spahn, who called on Sunday to imitate France by canceling "until further notice events of more than 1,000 people".

Nagelsmann assured that no further action was taken for this match by his team. "We have been careful for several weeks already, more autographs, we are reducing contacts a bit ..." For the moment, two of the four C1 matches planned for this week will be held behind closed doors, Valence-Atalanta Bergamo, and Paris SG- Dortmund, due to the risks associated with the virus.
