The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced today that three countries, Morocco, Tunisia and Cameroon, have requested to host the final match of the African Champions League for the 2019-2020 season, which takes place on May 29. The African Union said in a press statement that these countries submitted their requests within the deadline set by the Union between February 11 and 20 last.
Morocco has proposed the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca, and Tunisia's Rades Olympic Stadium in the capital, while Cameroon has offered to host the final at the Gaboma Stadium in Douala.
The competition has reached the quarter-finals now, in which 6 Arab teams are participating, including Esperance, the Tunisian coastal star, Wadad and Raja Moroccan, Al-Ahly and Zamalek of Egypt, in addition to Congolese Democratic Mazembe and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
Esperance play with its guest Zamalek today forth (1-3 round), while tomorrow, the coastal star meets with Wydad Casablanca (zero -2), Mazembe with Raja Casablanca (zero -2), and Sundowns with Al-Ahly (zero -2). The semi-final will be held on the first and eighth of next May, back and forth, respectively. It is the first time that the final of the ancient continental competition took place from only one match, and the same is true for the Federation Cup.
On the other hand, the African Confederation confirmed that Morocco is the only country that has submitted its candidacy for hosting the Confederation Cup final, scheduled for next May 24th. The kingdom proposed Prince Moulay Abd Allah Stadium in the capital Rabat.
