Italian football is headed straight for a general closed door measure because of the coronavirus. This was announced by the Minister of Sports, Vincenzo Spadafora, at the exit of the Council of Ministers which was held Wednesday at the Palais Chigi.

"We are moving towards this type of measure," he replied to a journalist who asked him about the possible closed-door cascade. "We do not stop any activity, including the Championship, but with respect for health for all," he continued. These measures, adopted for one month, may be revised after two weeks.

A decree in preparation

Italy is the third country most affected in the world by this epidemic of viral pneumonia, after China and South Korea: 79 infected people have died in the country, which has a total of 2,502 cases, according to a count published Tuesday.

This football-specific measure - as well as a large number of others relating to the whole of Italian society - should be officially announced on Wednesday afternoon in the form of decrees.
