Kylian Mbappé should not realize his dream of playing the next Olympic Games. According to information from L'Equipe , confirmed at Europe 1, PSG refuses to release the young star to go to Tokyo next summer. The Paris club sent a letter to the French Football Federation (FFF), inviting it not to count on Kylian Mbappé. PSG, which does not have the obligation to provide its players for the Olympics, does not want to deprive the world champion for the resumption of Ligue 1 next August.
PSG wants to count on him for the resumption of the championship
Kylian Mbappé had repeated several times his goal of achieving the triplet Champions League-Euro 2020-JO 2020. But the Euro being played from June 12 to July 12, and the Olympic Games from July 24 to August 9, the star of the Bleus could not have been available for the start of the French championship. PSG prefer that Kylian Mbappé can take advantage of a rest period after the Euro, in order to be able to count on him for the resumption of Ligue 1.
According to L'Equipe , the Paris club does not plan to release any of its players for the Olympics. Young French defenders Abdou Diallo and Colin Dagba, who were part of a pre-list for the Olympic Games, like Kylian Mbappé, are also concerned. The Spanish Ander Herrera, Juan Bernat and Pablo Sarabia will be subject to the same regime. PSG is not obliged to release its players for the Olympic competition, the latter not being part of the FIFA calendar, unlike the Euro or the World Cup.
Timing that raises questions
The timing of this decision is questionable, however. PSG takes the risk of frustrating its star, a week before a capital match in the knockout stages of the Champions League return against Borussia Dortmund (1-0 defeat in the first leg). The consequences of this refusal by PSG on the future of Kylian Mbappé, whose name comes up regularly in the transfers section, are also uncertain.
