It is in an article published by the Chinese state-owned Xinhua News Agency that Sun Yang made his first statement after the verdict.

- This is unfair. I strongly believe that I am innocent. I will definitely appeal to get more people to know the truth. says the swimming star.

Cas states in the judgment that the doping hunters who visited Sun Yang's house in September 2018 brought with them proof documents and minutes and that Yang, who was interviewed in November, could not provide a sufficiently good explanation.

"The athlete failed to provide a convincing justification of destroying the test tubes and refraining from doping control when, in his sole discretion, the doping protocol did not appear to be of the ISTI standard (Wada's standard)," Cas writes in his judgment.

Stronger judgment due to previous doping crimes

Since SunYang has previously been suspended for three months for doping, a positive test of a banned substance in 2014, Cas will be harsh.

"One eight-year suspension, starting from Cas's judgment (February 28, 2020), must be the case for the athlete," Cas writes.

Yang, who has taken threeOS gold and nine World Cup golds at four different distances, has been under-investigated for the past year but has nevertheless been allowed to compete in the grand championships. At the World Cup in South Korean Gwangju this summer he took two golds at 200 and 400 meters freestyle.

When the Swiss court will decide whether it will take up the appeal or is not yet clear.
