Dele Alli has been officially sued by the English federation FA. According to the union, the midfielder was guilty of misconduct in a video on social media, thereby discrediting the sport.
In the video, the Tottenham Hotspur player made a joke about the COVID-19 virus. He wore a mask at an airport and filmed a man with an Asian appearance. He then showed a bottle of hand soap. "This virus will have to be faster to get hold of me," he wrote.
The English international soon apologized and removed the video. "I would like to apologize for the video I posted on Snapchat. It was not funny, I realized that quickly and then I immediately deleted the video."
If Alli is found guilty, he may end up on a game suspension. According to the FA, this is a serious offense, in which reference is made to a person's race, color, ethnicity or nationality.
Alli has had time to defend itself from the FA until Thursday 5 March. When the verdict is, is unknown.
