The Japanese football federation, J-League, announced Tuesday its decision to postpone all scheduled matches until March 15, due to fears of the spread of coronavirus. This initiative comes in addition to that taken a few hours earlier to postpone seven cup matches that were scheduled for Wednesday.

These measures are being taken in response to government instructions to limit the gathering of people as much as possible, in order to avoid massive contagion at a time deemed critical by infectious disease specialists.

In the best of cases, the matches will not resume until March 16, but it will depend on the situation at that time, said a J-League official. Several football championships are already pending across Asia due to the epidemic of the new coronavirus.

All sports are affected. The Table Tennis Team Worlds, scheduled to take place next month in the South Korean city of Busan, have been postponed until June. The same goes for the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Nanjing and the Chinese Grand Prix planned for Shanghai. Among others.
