Amr Fahmy, former Confederation of African Football Confederation (CAF) secretary, died today Sunday after a long struggle with illness at the age of 37.

Fahmy assumed the position of Secretary General of Kef before he was dismissed from his post last April after being accused of corruption by the President of the Federation, Ahmed Ahmed.

Fahmy graduated from the Department of Business Administration at the Naval Academy of Sciences and Technology in 2004, and obtained a Master of Sports Management from the International Football Association (FIFA).

He joined the CAF as an assistant director of the Department of International Championships between 2007 and 2010, as an assistant coordinator for the World Youth Championship in Turkey 2013, as he was appointed general director of the African Championships for locals from 2011 to 2014, and later as director of the 2013 and 2015 African Nations Cup championships, and also worked as an assistant Coordinator for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Amr Fahmy announced at the end of last year his intention to run for the presidency of CAF and the competition of Malagasy Ahmed Ahmed in the elections scheduled for 2021, and he chose to fight corruption as a slogan for his campaign, but the cancer did not leave him long.
