Things got worse when Malmö FF entered the Europa League playoffs.

After a stable first half, where MFF only let go for a real goal chance (a rib shot by Josip Brekalo after MFF dropped the ball easily on midfield), the team got a dream start in the second half.

"ICT" acknowledged

For already after one minute, the Lithuanian judge Gediminas Mažeika pointed to a Wolfsburg hand in the penalty area. Forwards, the new acquisition Isaac Kiese Thelin stepped in and safely rolled in 1-0.

But the joy was short-lived. Only three minutes later Eric Larsson dropped the ball which bounced to Josip Brekalo. He then advanced into the penalty area and shot a hard left-hand shot into the net - unacceptable for Johan Dahlin in Malmö FF's goal.

Aim for a free kick

It would be even worse for MFF. A quarter of a minute later Wolfsburg got a free kick that was passed to Admir Mehmedi seven-eight meters in front of goal. Mehmedi then nodded via MFF goalkeeper Isaac Kiese Thelin and into the goal.

The goal was the last of the match, and MFF thus has a perfectly okay result with it before the return, which is played in Malmö in a week. If the MFF wins by 1–0, they advance to the eighth final.

More negative for MFF, however, is that they suffered injuries. Already after 22 minutes, Arnor Traustason was forced to change, and a quarter of a second into the second half had his substitute Sören Riek's step off because of injury.
