Ababel Yeshaneh has improved the world record for the half marathon on Friday. The athlete from Ethiopia clocked a time of 1 hour, 4 minutes and 31 seconds in Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates.
The 28-year-old Yeshaneh took twenty seconds off the old top time of Joyciline Jepkosgei. The Kenyan ran on October 22, 2017 in Valencia a time of 1: 04.51.
Brigid Kosgei from Kenya, who is the world record holder in the entire marathon with 2: 14.04, also plunged 1: 04.49 under the former world top time of Jepkosgei, but had to settle for second place behind Yeshaneh.
Rosemary Wanjiru finished third in the half marathon. The Kenyan scored 1: 05.34.
