Tokyo Para Boccia test tournament to be held without crowds 15:26 on February 20 due to infection control

Due to the spread of the new coronavirus, the Tokyo Paralympic Boccia test tournament will be held in Tokyo from 28th this month without any audience. This is the first time that the new Coronavirus has had an impact on the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic test competitions.

The Boccia test tournament, which confirms the operational issues of the Tokyo Paralympics, will be held at Ariake Gymnastics Arena in Koto-ku, Tokyo, for three days starting this month.

Due to the spread of the new coronavirus, the Japan Sports Association for the Disabled has decided to hold the event as an international tournament.

Many Boccia athletes aiming for the Paralympics have a higher risk of infection due to severe disabilities such as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy, and have considered the magnitude of the effects of infection.

Initially, 10 countries and territories were expected to participate in the tournament, but so far South Korea, Hong Kong and Slovakia have announced that they will not participate.

According to the Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the test tournament will check the travel routes of wheelchair players and check equipment.

It is the first time that the spread of the new coronavirus has affected the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics test competitions.
