Melin got fired in Leksand, jumbo in SHL, just over a week ago and ended up in the last place in the hockeyall Swede. It is the third victory as coach at AIK for the 63-year-old who also represented the club as a player.

AIK is in crisis both sporting and financial and the task now is to save the Stockholm team in the hockeyall Swede. The road there seems to go through qualifying for Melin, despite the victory, AIK has 14 points up to Almtuna, the closest team above the qualifying line, and only five laps remain.

Emil Aronsson became the winner with two goals for the home team that took its ninth three-pointer in 47 games. He shot 1-0 in the first period on the home team's first shot on goal and then put 3-1 in empty away box with six seconds left to play. Goalkeeper Mika Järvinen also played big, allowing only one of 25 shots.

Melin, who is AIK's third head coach of the season, had just one training session with the new team behind him - but it was still enough to win.

At the top, the hunt for the second final spot behind Björklöven - which won away to Karlskoga by 2-1 after extension - is still intense. Two Modo outscored the lead to three Timrå to four points thanks to victory away to Almtuna by 4-1. Timrå also won, but the 2-1 victory away against Västerås came only after extension after Jens Lööke decided.
