Ron Jans is very disappointed with his departure from FC Cincinnati. After being accused of racism, the 61-year-old coach felt he had no choice but to resign immediately.
"This is such a shame. I really had a great time, but in a few days everything turns over," a grieving Jans told De Telegraaf .
The Overijsselaar was discredited because he sang along in the dressing room with a hip hop number in which the word nigger appears. A player from FC Cincinnati filed a complaint with the US players' union, after which the MLS opened an investigation.
"During the research you get things and you come to realize that when you return, the dressing room may be divided and you do not know who you can trust", says Jans.
"The club and I have decided that this is the best solution, because I can no longer work as I would have liked. During the investigation, a number of things were mentioned that I thought: well ... come on, sit there nothing at all behind. "

"I think the worst is over"
Jans probably does not have to fear further sanctions now that he has resigned. While awaiting the investigation, he took a step back on Friday, but also emphasized that his statement was particularly awkward and that he had no racist intentions.
"Because I am retreating, a punishment is no longer important, I understand. Even though I don't know the details about it, this is annoying enough. I have been upset for a while. I understood from the lawyers that at least not in a positive way. "
Despite the incident, Jans looks back on his American period with a positive feeling. "I did not see this coming, it is a very difficult situation, but I feel strong. I have had a great time and I want to thank everyone within the club and certainly also the fans and owners. It was beautiful, with unfortunately a abrupt and bad ending. "
Jans was FC Cincinnati's trainer since last August. He ended last season with the club in last place in the MLS, but by attracting Jürgen Locadia and possibly also Siem de Jong, he had great ambitions for the coming season, which will start in March.
