The Gulldén, which has been the big poster name for Swedish women's handball for the past decade, was therefore forced to decline because of injury.

During her career she has played 14 championships and 214 international matches.

- When I feel that I cannot do myself justice on the pitch, I am not an asset in the Olympic and European qualifiers with such a close match, she says in a press release.

- I hope that in the spring I can find my way back to the form that allows me to compete for a national team again.

However, team captain Sabina Jacobsen, right-hander Emma Fernis and star Johanna Westberg are back after injuries and childbirth.

Lugis Clara Lerby, 20, and Sävehof's Nina Dano, 19, make their debut in the A-national team. Dano will also be the first player born in the 2000s to play in the A-national team on the women's side.

- It will be extremely interesting to see Clara and Nina in this context. Both have been key players in the national team in recent years and are future players, says the federation captain Henrik Signell.

- Then it will be fun to see Johanna Westberg again who has done well in Denmark since she came back after becoming a mother.
