Nowadays, each team in the men's basketball team has three non-EU players, as well as three other foreign players.
For the next season there will be a decrease. Then each team may have four foreign players, regardless of their nationality.
"All SBL associations have made a positive contribution to this proposal, giving them a greater freedom to choose among different players in the world, while at the same time, more Swedish players will have a place in the squad," says Olle Lundén, competition manager at the Swedish Basketball Association , in a press release.
"Increased development"Also national team manager Fredrik Joulamo is pleased with the change.
- This will mean that more Swedish players are given the leading roles in their teams, and thus an increased development that in the long term can mean a lot to our national teams. Also positive that the clubs now have the whole world as a market, and do not end up in situations where one has to limit themselves geographically in the hunt for a certain type of player.
The change applies from the next season. No change has yet been nailed to the women's league.
