Pang, pang, pang. Patric Hörnqvist is red-hot in Pittsburgh's home meeting with Detroit in the NHL. Before the second period was over, the Swedish ice hockey star was responsible for a hat-trick, plus an assist.

Hörnqvist started the goalscorer for the home team when he put 1–1 after 7.58 in the first period. The 33-year-old was last on the puck in a messy situation in front of the away goal and got the goal after it was first awarded to teammate Sam Lafferty.

In the same period, the Swede led Kris Letang to 2-1.

In the beginning of the second period, Hörnqvist expanded to 3-1 and then set his third for the evening to 5-1 after being released with Jonathan Bernier in the away goal.

It was Sweden's third hat-trick of his NHL career. Last time was December 4, 2018.

Hörnqvist is currently up 27 points in 40 games.

There were then no more goals in the match. Detroit remains hopelessly last in the entire NHL, while Pittsburgh is rushing toward the playoffs.
