At the end of 2018, Yevgeny Ustyugov was one of four Russian drivers to be accused of doping. The other three were Svetlana Sleptsova, Aleksander Chernyshev and Aleksander Petjenkin. The latter two were the only ones turned off.

Ustjugov - who has taken several medals in the Olympics and the World Cup - was released.

But now the Russian news agency Tass states that the IBU (International Biathlon Association) has started a new investigation against Ustjugov. He is being investigated for doping crimes between 2010-2014.

This is confirmed by Russian biathlon chairman Vladimir Drachev, writes Tass.

- Before I went to the World Cup 2020 in Antholz, I was told that IBU had started an investigation based on Jevgenij Ustjugov's biological passport. The same investigation was held in 2017 and 2018, says Drachev and continues:

- Ustjugov, who had retired from the sport four years earlier, underwent all the necessary tests to prove his innocence. Then the investigation ended and they found that he had never used banned drugs. We have asked UBI to explain why they have started an investigation again.

Can get rid of the medals

If it turns out that Ustjugov is being convicted of doping, he will get rid of all the medals from his career. It's about two Olympic golds, one Olympic bronze and two World Cup silver.

Both at Ustjugov's Olympic bronze relay in Vancouver 2010 and at the World Championship silver in relay 2011, Sweden finished in fourth place. So a convict for Ustjugov would mean two Swedish medals.

Ustjugov dropped the biathlon career in 2014.
