Dylan Groenewegen also won the third stage of the Tour of Valencia on Friday. The Amsterdammer from Team Jumbo-Visma just settled in the mass sprint with his countryman Fabio Jakobsen.

Behind the two Dutchmen, the Slovenian Matej Mohoric finished third in the 174-kilometer stage from Orihuela to Torrevieja.

The ride was colored by an escape of six riders. At 9 kilometers from the finish the Spaniards Héctor Sáez, Julen Irizar and Ivan Moreno were the last refugees to be caught by the peloton, after which Groenewegen finished in the mass sprint.

For Groenewegen it was his second stage victory in the Tour of Valencia. Last Wednesday, he also won the opening stage and recorded his first victory of the season. He also took the leader's jersey.

A day later, Groenewegen lost the first place in the general classification to Tadej Pogacar. The top Slovenian talent crossed the finish line in the peloton and kept his leader's jersey.

The Tour of Valencia lasts until Sunday. On Saturday a stage with an uphill finish is on the program.
